Kathleen Kudlinski

Kathleen Kudlinski never wanted to be a writer. As a child, she hated school, but loved nature, reading, and, most of all, talking. Now she is the author of 38 children’s books, ranging from picture books to YA level, including natural history, biographies and historical novels. Kathleen holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Maine and has six years of teaching experience in the classroom. Seeing how hungry kids are for good books, and for books about nature was what made her a writer.

Kathleen has been named a Master Teaching Artist for the State of Connecticut and visited nearly two hundred schools, designed and implemented a dozen paired school residencies, as well as presenting at regional and national conferences. She writes and illustrates an award-winning newspaper column, “The Naturalist” for the New Haven Register (circ. 260,000), leads several SCBWI (Society of Childrens Book Writers and Illustrators) critique groups, and teaches writing for children.

She lives in Guilford Connecticut with her husband on the edge of a deep, wild pond and often writes at their log cabin in Springfield Vermont. Her household includes an artist son, a dog, an ancient cat, and five snakes.
