Get Ready to Unplug: Turn OFF the TV and Turn ON a Book!

GOAL:

To give families a set of lively, creative activities designed to encourage the enjoyment of books.

DESCRIPTION:

Using their own books, as well as those of other authors, a group of local Connecticut authors will bring books to life. We will offer activity areas where children and their caregivers can choose to listen to stories, sing songs, make character puppets or create their own books, engaging in stories along the way. Up to eight activities can be tailored for different age groups.

HANDOUTS:

A list of age-appropriate books for each station.

PRESENTERS:

The members of Write Up Our Alley, a group of award-winning authors and illustrators from Connecticut. All have years of experience in presenting programs at schools and in leading workshops for parents and educators.

AUDIENCE:

Children in grades K through 6 and their caregivers.

TIME: 60 to 90 minutes

COST:

$600 to $1,600. Books may be sold to offset the cost of this program, with proceeds to benefit host school. Authors will be available for book signings.
