Living the Wave
The perfect spring or summer family program for the season of “Catch the Wave”
GOALS:
To introduce children to the amazing adaptations of the animals and plants who live their lives amid crashing waves. To understand the actions of waves and tides. To encourage children to explore nature for themselves.
DESCRIPTION:
Using audience participation, chants, storytelling, and live animals, the author of THE SEASIDE SWITCH first helps the audience to imagine life in the chaos between tides. Next, she works from the high tide line to low and down into tide pools, sharing the physical and behavioral adaptations of animals and plants who live there. In conclusion, the author reads her book, a recap of many of the program’s high points.
HANDOUTS:
The author will bring fresh specimens from Connecticut beaches to show and many shells that children may take home.
The author will also bring copies of THE SEASIDE SWITCH and a companion title, THE SUNSET SWITCH to sell (at $16.95), donating 20% of the price to the sponsoring organization.
EQUIPMENT:
For large groups, the author will bring a disc of her book in power-point-format.
